Tech News Week 8

http://www.technewsworld.com/story/53693.html

Well it's about damn time. Sci-fi and science fantasy people have had these in mind for HOW LONG? And we've been capable of it for HOW LONG? Once the military releases this to the public it'll be a huge hit with tourists and whatnot. Looking forward to it's public availability!

Homework Wk 5

No open ports were found in the firewall test, meaning I'm pretty safe for a casual user. Installed Zone Alarm anyway and ran it again and nothing changed on my results.

Stuffs on Writely.

BatMUD was giving me a hell of a time, I couldn't see what I was typing and ended up going back and forth between the same two rooms fifty-million times. Damn, I'm great.

Aw hell no!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061010/ap_on_bi_ge/google_youtube_33

Google owns YouTube? This will be the DEATH of the popular video site. Companies are already having things removed from youtube. Now, I can understand them wanting to have the complete movies and episodes of shows removed for copywright infringment, that's cutting on their profits blah blah blah I can see where they're coming from there. But fan-made music videos done with jumbled up clips from their shows/movies that aren't hurting their profits at all and aren't getting money for anyone else? If anything, they're hurting free advertisment. I can name a number of series and movies I had no interest in until I watched some fan vids on YouTube. Not only will this purchase of YouTube by Google shoot the business elements in the foot, but the fan communities. YouTube has been a free method of sharing fan-vids roughly since the start. No one makes money from what they put on YouTube and it doesn't cost any money to put anything up. A home-schooled 13-year-old with no athletic abilities to speak of and no real talent with a pen or paintbrush becomes an icon in their fandom as a prodigious creator of fan-vids and anime music videos. Take away the ability to share these videos because of non-existant copyright infringement, and the aforementioned 13-year-old is stuck at home with little to do that seems worth doing. Kinda sucks don't it? One could even argue that these fan-vids are keeping young people out of trouble and away from drug abuse the same way many argue the same of sports and after-school activities.

Tech News

Computer monitors that roll up small enough to fit inside a briefcase (or backback, for that matter) then unrolls into a solid structure sounds pretty damn good to me.

Tech news

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060914/ap_on_hi_te/computer_free_digital_music_1

This article describes a method of playing music, streaming from the internet, without a computer. Seems a tad bit anticlimactic, but I rather like the idea of playing music I don't own via the internet for extended periods of time without leaving my computer open to attack via the internet. Seems quite practical to me.

Why Blogger . . .

Quite simply because it was convenient. I was already on the site. The class blog was on this site. I had already had to register with the site to read the proffessor's blog. After building the blog I appreciated the ease of use, but that was not known until after the decision was made.

A little about me . . .

I'm an incoming freshman from Epping who is about as fond of the Epping School System as Prof. Barbasso is, although for somewhat different reasons. I'm not the most "normal" person around, my behaviours ranging from "disturbingly calm" to "sugar-buzzed morbid," but rarely do I deliberately try to be creepy/gross/morbid/wierd. If I start talking about zombies, I'm not trying to freak any body out. I like David Bowie, blades, and cooking. Yay, food! ^_^

Boom, did my homework.

I've got a lovely bunch of cocoanuts, doodley-doo . . .

Thus begins my CT111 class blog. Phear the bagel.
